Owner's Welcome

Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge is owned by father and son, Wayne and Jacob McGee and held together by their wives (bosses) Sue and Ashley McGee as well as Cameron McGee, the camp manager.  We, as a family, are dedicated to making your stay one that you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life.

At the age of 19 Wayne left his home in Chicago to explore the “Heart of Africa” where he worked deep in the jungles of Congo (Zaire at the time). His wife Sue, from New Jersey, followed him to Africa from university where they met. They eloped in Kenya and have led a life of adventure ever since, raising their family not only in the equatorial rainforests of the Congo, but also the deserts of Mali, and then on to the concrete jungles of London where they have lived the for more than a quarter of a century.  Wayne has had a passion for “wild places” his whole life, and has had the opportunity to fish across the globe.  Sue, equally loves the outdoors and has a passion for people and service.  She is one of the friendliest and most welcoming hostess’ you will ever meet!  Wayne and Sue have four children, Tyler, Jacob, Megan and Cameron.

Jacob has been working in South-west Alaska in the fishing industry since 2008. He and his wife Ashley spend their winters in Anchorage where Ashley was born and raised.  Jacob grew all over Africa and England and has traveled the world, often with a fly-rod in hand.  He is a bush pilot and flies for ATA during the season.  Ashley shares Jacob’s passion for travel and the outdoors and has visited over 30 countries solo and with Jacob.  She grew up fishing, hiking, rafting and camping etc.. with her family in the vast wilderness playground of her childhood. She now spends summers at the lodge and enjoys sharing her love for people and the wilds of Alaska with visitors to the ATA Lodge.

Like all remote “off the grid” operations, we depend on our team greatly to get us through each season.  ATA Lodge is very proud to work with a wonderful group return staff that really make this place what it is.  With delicious meals, warm hospitality, skilled workers and a world class guide team, we all look forward to serve you during your stay with us.  We are truly blessed to work alongside such wonderful family and friends.  Over the years, many of our guests have become friends and part of our extended family, and it is our hope that during your stay, you will “feel right at home” as well.
